Notes on Re-reading

The book did not change. You did, and that is the point.

Notes on Re-reading

Return to a book you loved at twenty and you will meet a stranger โ€” yourself, then, reading it for the first time.

The same words, a new reader

Nothing on the page has moved. The sentences are exactly where you left them. What has shifted is the person holding the book.

A book read twice is really two books, and the second one is about you.

Keep the ones worth re-reading. They are the cheapest way to measure how far you have come.
